Lufthansa Allegris business seats: which upgrade is worth choosing?

Five seat categories make the map look complicated. The choice becomes simpler when you decide whether you need length, room to work, or a door.

Choose the feature you will use: Extra Long Bed for length, Privacy for distance from the aisle, Extra Space for room, or the front-row Business Suite for a door.

01Five categories solve different problems

Allegris is not one business seat repeated down the cabin. Lufthansa offers several shapes and positions, and the most expensive option need not solve your particular problem. Begin with what bothers you on a long flight. Is it a short bed, exposure to the aisle, nowhere to spread out a laptop, or a lack of privacy?

PrivacyGreater distance from the aisleDo I value separation more than extra floor space?
Extra SpaceMore room and storageWill I use the extra space while awake?
Extra Long BedA 2.2-metre bedIs length my main sleeping constraint?
Business SuiteFront row with higher walls and doorsWill I use the privacy enough to pay for it?

03Extra Space and Extra Long Bed are not interchangeable

The names can sound like versions of the same upgrade. They address different needs. A tall traveller may get more use from bed length than from extra surfaces around the seat. Someone planning to work during a daytime crossing may care about the opposite. Paying for “more space” without checking which space is the easiest way to choose the wrong category.

Consider a hypothetical overnight flight with dinner followed by sleep. If you expect to close your laptop before take-off, the extra working area has limited value. On the return, with daylight across much of the journey, that same area may be useful for several hours. Choose each direction separately rather than buying the same premium seat twice by habit.

04A Privacy Seat is not a Business Suite

The Privacy Seat’s separation comes from its position farther from the aisle. The Business Suite adds higher partitions and doors in the first row. These are different forms of privacy. If a closed door is the essential feature, selecting a seat labelled Privacy will not answer that requirement.

Couples should inspect the centre arrangement and partition before paying for two suites. Two people who prefer independent sleeping spaces have different needs from two people hoping to spend most of the flight talking. Lufthansa’s First Class Suite Plus is another product again; its photographs should not be used to judge the business cabin.

05Compare the seat fee against a real benefit

The seat-selection screen is where the decision becomes concrete. Check the category, the quoted supplement and any benefit attached to your status or fare. Do not apply a generic Lufthansa seat-selection rule to an Allegris premium category: the airline publishes separate conditions for the suites and other special seats.

Write a short reason for the upgrade before paying: “I need the longer bed” is useful; “it is the best seat” is not. If the standard seat already gives you what you need, the premium may be better spent on a convenient flight time or a hotel after arrival. That is a comparison of your trip, not a ranking of cabin photographs.
